BDS is one of the most popular courses to become a dentist. The BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery) is the only educational and professional program of dental surgery in India. It is equivalent to the MBBS degree and owes the “Doc” domain. After M.B.B.S, Bachelor of Dental Surgery is one the most desired and popular course in the field of medical science. A person with BDS degree plays the vital role in the treatment of problems related to teeth. The dentist diagnoses and cures all dental related diseases. It is very challenging to go for the BDS course and you should have the interest, enthusiasm, laborious attitude in the study and have a focused mind for doing the BDS course.


Bachelor of Dental Surgery course is 4-5 years of study with internship and without internship. The B.D.S. course is divided into 2 or more semesters. The course can be pursued either as a Full Time Graduate Course or Part Time Graduate Course i.e. through Correspondence or Distance Education depending upon one’s choice. 

As per DCI Guidelines:

After Sr. Secondary (10+2) with 50% marks in PCB & English a candidate with minimum age of 17 Years at the time of passing qualifying examination can apply for B.D.S course.

Admissions into BDS programs can be done through entrance test also. NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) is mostly considered for providing admission to BDS courses.
